Found this last week . Never thought I would find one of these in Oregon. Have been told it is a Comissioned Officer Sword Belt Plate, circa 1850 . Been detecting for about a year and a half, also found a one piece flat button last year , was told it is a Federal Navy issue circa 1810 , as well as 22 silver coins , 45 rings , (best is 18k and platinum ) tokens and so much more. What a great hobby. uploadfromtaptalk1461125436797.webp

Nice find! Isn't that buckle newer than an 1851? The 51s had soldered silver wreaths. Thought the later designs were 1pc. In any case that's an awesome plate to find out there!!

Was told by a Civil War memorabilia dealer in Indiana that is is as I stated. I was told Comissioned Officer Belt plates did not have the soldered wreath , enlisted however did . I,m no expert by any means , have been told by several collectors that there were many makers of the belt plates , some had variations . The one thing that I have noticed about the one I found is the stars are 6 pointed , all the belt plates I see on the Internet and books have 5 pointed stars. As I stated earlier , I will try and figure out how to post pics of some of my best finds from the last year and a half.
