I had planned a 5-day road trip to drive around and stop and detect whenever the mood struck. About a week before leaving, though, my van was broken into and they stole my detector, a Teknetics T2SE. So big BIG thanks to WV1978, who saved the day by loaning me his spare detector, a very nice Teknetics G2, so I could still go detecting.
First day out was my best day. I was not far from Fredericksburg, VA. I found an almost-complete eagle breast plate (my second -- I found another one years ago). A few minutes later I dug up my first-ever 2-cent piece. It's pretty toasty but I think I can make out a date of 1869.
Then there were a few other finds that I also posted on What Is It?. The button, which looks like it may have been silver-plated, and which has old-looking marks on the back with a crown and wreath. No lettering that I can make out.
There's the little horseshoe-shaped thing, which is bronze, maybe, and a flat lead piece which appears to have a figure on it in relief. No idea what any of these are.
Thanks for looking!
