I found this axe up in the hills in a natural spring in southwest Iowa. I have looked and looked and cannot seem to find one that has the same features. Too bad to tip of its broke. 3/4 groove axe.

Nice axe find. Congrats

3/4 groove axe.

I know it's a 3/4 groove but it has a groove that runs to the hafting groove and one on the other side that runs the entire length. Just saying I haven't come across one that is the same in my research.15296972476695623272758514937915.webp15296973063146741528429957788613.webp

Not seeing what your referring to, maybe if you wet axe it will show,I have seen fluted axes.

The one running full length on the underside was to accept a wedge that could be tapped in once in a while to tighten the hafting that would inevitably loosen after use.

Very nice looking axe.

I'd like to know what he hit to break the bit. He really whopped something. Nice axe with unusual extra groove. Gary
