Found this fancy button today along with some other goodies that I’ll post once everything is cleaned. Looking for any information on this two piece button, the back stamp has a federal eagle on it with some other design. Would this be considered military? Thanks in advance!

It’s approximately the same size as a modern quarter.

The headgear he is wearing kind of looks like some type of an early European military helmet ???? IDK but, It's a keeper for sure.

That is an early Upland Game license button. These were purchased from the local Game Magistrate for, depending on the date, anywhere from a Half Cent to Two Cents. These had to be attached anywhere on the front of your hunting jacket and clearly visible from 10 feet. Failure to comply meant forfeiture of your game, gun, property and your wife.

Very cool !

I'd say it's a fancy Sportsman's button. Very popular in the mid to late 1800s.
