Not saying it's not CW but it could possibly be broken farm equipment etc.

Hint: you can have an unknown item. Or a known Civil War item. But you cannot have an "unknown Civil War item" - because you have to know what it is to know that it was war material.

The US has had various metal bits beyond copper for 400 years (1,000 if you include Scandinavian items). But the Civil War was only 4 of those years. 1% chance an unknown item has anything to do with that war.
