Hi all,

On one of my numerous trips to India, I bought a bunch of coins. In it were some stinkers and some awesome finds. This is one I have no idea what it is. On the second side you'll notice some gouges above the building. This was done intentionally by someone to obscure the wording. the same was done to the rim of the coin. Around the rim there used to be stamped letters, but now the only letter visible is the LAST character, a 'P."

.

I do not believe this to be silver. It is heavy, a little larger than a half dollar in both width and thickness. Any ideas?

I'm thinking if I can attribute it I could discover why someone would want to obfuscate the original.

Thanks as always,
Kevo

The only thing I can say about it is that it doesnt look American.

The building looks like a castle but the tree looks Far Eastern. Might be bamboo.

Further research has led me to believe this is a British War medal much like this:

The sanding around the rim was done to obscure the individual's name, and it would make sense for it to be British since I bought it in India. I also got another identifiable war medal from the same vendor. I should have made the connection.

I just can't figure out which medal it is.

Indian Army Sainya Seva Medal

"The medal was instituted on 26 January 1960 and revised on 17 June 1960, to be awarded for service in difficult conditions due to extreme climate and terrain. It could be awarded retrospectively for service after Indian Independence (15 August 1947). The Himalayas clasp was awarded for service in the very north of India in the Himalayan Mountains in areas disputed by China and Pakistan...."

The gouges above the building are now obvious. When I was a kid I used to cut the loop or attachment from watch fobs and medals to make them appear to be coins. I didnt know any better. ::) I liked coins. That appears to be what happened here.
