coin ID

Looks like a one penny coin from what is now Germany, probably dating from the mid-1700's. I have a similar one dated 1742 in my collection. Unfortunately, these are common- mine cost me only 2 dollars. But you should look it up anyway- it might be better than what I have. Did you dig it up near Frederick? I used to live near there, and there was extensive settlement by German immigrants there in the 1700's.

Thanks for the lead!

I did find some other German coins in the bunch but none were 1700's...I'll look into it. Thanks!

No I inherited these from an uncle that passed. A buddy of mine and I did find a 1769 Swedish Ore while MD'ing near Frederick along with a spanish milled dollar and a couple of deteriorated large Cents (i think) that are Indiscernible now.

nice finds

Yes, Frederick is old enough to have some really nice 1700's coins. The trouble is that there are fewer and fewer places to detect arond there these days. I did dig a dateless Liberty Cap cent there last year, and a pretty nice CW belt plate, though. You should post pics of those coins- maybe someone could identify a few of your undiscernable coppers.

Hope this will help someone id this;with your help.
The photo seems to show a clear "1p" on the lower right.
One pence if this can be verified by you would help further dating.

Are there any traces of a coat of arms on the reverse? Otherwise it would be difficult to identify this coin correctly. In the 18th cent. today's germany was split up im many small states which had their right to mint coins. The term "Scheidem?nze" refers to a coin of very low nominal value and was used on copper coins only. Please try to do a rubbin/drawing from the reverse. Folkert
