Unknown copper Coin!

This coin was dug up while detecting at about 4 inches, in Alturas, California (high desert).
The house and town date back to 1890, it was found in the back yard / field.

I am not sure of its country of origin or identity, have you seen something similar before?.

It is not in the best of shape, and I cannot makeout the writting around the edge. Although the letters are "english" looking....

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this is?

I have done a little research on the net and found pictures of roman coins with similar style and images...

Or, Is this a spanish coin?

it has oxidized a bit since it was pulled out of the ground, and i think it is copper...

Although the picture is not clear it appears to be a Roman Bronze coin.
I lived in Spain for 3-4 years and dug some similar and have a book full of pictures like this,
but in its condition it would be hard to ID the Emporor on the coin.
millions were made and all seem very similar, and not of any great value.
The fact that it was found in the US is surprising but it has happend before...
If only this could talk..

That is a Roman "Antoninianus" of emperor Aurelian. The portrait is distinctly Aurelian.? These are quite common coins; however, not commonly found in the U.S.? The coin isn't worth much in it's current state.....I have a pretty good specimen of a similar coin.

Interesting, old Roman coin found at a California park. Possibly the original owners went overseas for a trip, purchased it as a souvenir, then lost it.

Somebody probably was buying and cleaning ancient coins. This one broke so they threw it away. I've done it myself many times.
