I've been sent these two photos of of a rock found somewhere in the Santa Catalina Mtns of Arizona, north of Tucson. I only have the two photos and have not seen the stone. Some of the engravings have been blackened with a pencil. It appears to be chiseled with a metal tool. The stone has been removed from the original location. These do not look like petroglyphs which are usually pecked into rock with a sun-baked surface, showing two colors when worked. Does anyone know what these engravings might represent? Are they possibly Spanish? Any feedback is appreciated. Ed, Arizona.
