Unknown item????

Found in North Texas. Heavy brass. Shaft is round but the "head" of it is flat on the back.
Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure what you have is the "Bolt" part of a gate latch.
Hard to find an exact match but this may give you an idea.

If found in a field in North Texas, I would say it may be a part off of a 1920's steam tractor. Very cool piece of brass! Sub
