I found this piece of lead along with dozens of musket balls and a couple three ringers.. musket flints and clay pipes.
Any thoughts?
Also.. I should comment the site was a fort occupied from 1835-1842
Then again for a brief period in the 1860's. The soil conditions allowed for very little oxidation on some pieces.

Never seen musket balls that color before if that's what they are. They remind me more of shrapnel balls

I assure you.. they are musket balls.
Sprue..seam..and all.
I have the flints and the military buttons to go with them.

Have dug lots of Minies and musket balls that are that dark colour....but they have been dug out in salt water.

This is probably the best Minie from the site.

No.. Buck shot from Buck and ball loads as well as different Cal. Musket balls..... do you have any comment on the one I am asking a question about?
The patina was dependant on how long they spent in a higher oxygen environment vs. under salty mud.
There are many of the same size with very different patina...many of different size with similar patina...that's not my line of interest here however.

Only thing I can think of is some kinda of weight to an old clock

can you give us a shot of the squared end particularly?I think thats where the answer may be.

Can you post a shot of the non-pointed end, does it look like it has a piece of ferrous metal at that end?

I ask because it sorta looks like a handmade "Jig Head" and if it is it would've had a hook coming out that end, and it has what looks to be a broken eyelet at the top.

Yeah.. I will post.
No metal however. And what may appear as an eyelet is lead sprue.

Well it was a shot in the dark so to speak, I'm stumped as to what it could be, maybe TheCannonballGuy will have some input as to what it maybe.
