I found this piece of lead along with dozens of musket balls and a couple three ringers.. musket flints and clay pipes.
Any thoughts?
Also.. I should comment the site was a fort occupied from 1835-1842
Then again for a brief period in the 1860's. The soil conditions allowed for very little oxidation on some pieces.

Perhaps the back end had another piece with the hook(s) in it - and it broke off or rotted off, etc. It does look like another piece was attached.

I fish alot...jig heads are made with the shank of the hook running through the lead.
Lead is too soft to attach something to that is going to take the abuse of a thrashing fish.
Its just not done.
Where would the eyelet be?
In another piece that broke off?
Thanks guys but I might try another avenue for info.

Some antique wooden lures were weighted with lead 100 years ago, and the hook didn't go through the lead - I guess that's what I was aiming at. Hard to say what your lead is though.
