Hello Relic Dude here for the first time. I have enjoyed the forum for awhile and decided to join after detecting today and finding these unknown relics.
Beautiful day here in the Northeast. Detected near a cellar hole and found a complete Rat Tail Spoon. Also found these 2 idetical items just a couple of feet from each other.

I suspect that they are some sort of horse or ox gear. Your help is appreciated. Thanks! Relic.jpg

They are a piece of horse of Oxen tack, as you suspected. Picture one leather strap on the top square piece and 2 or 3 on the bottom round piece, allowed to swivel.

Do you have a size reference? If it is bigger than say 2 1/2 to 3 inches,it would most likely be from a harness, smaller and it would probably be from a bridle or halter. (The thing that goes over the horse's head)
The problem is there are SO many different types.

Unfortunately that would be VERY difficult to nail down, since a lot of this equipment hasn't changed for hundreds of years.
