Unknown tag

Found this tag in a field where civil war era artifacts have been found however cattle were also held nearby. Wondering if anyone had any ideas or am I looking at an ear tag for cattle? The front of the tag has the numbers 449 and nothing on the reverse side. It is about the size of a half dollar.

Most likely a cattle tag, since some were nearby. Tags like these are usually for cattle or could be used as a tool chit.
