Unmarked Silver Chalice

I think this is made of pure silver. Its constructed unlike silver plate and its unmarked outside of a monogram. It didn't cost much, so if it's not silver I won't be hurting too much. I'll get it over to the scrap buyer to be sure.

It looks right to me too. Those little dents in the body scream silver.

There was no reaction to an acid test on a filed spot and the scrap buyer would've had no problem giving me a cash offer, but only on 80% alloy, because its not marked. I decided not to hear what that was, because I'm keeping it.

Its silver and as I said the person who is in the business of buying PMs tested it and was a 100% convinced its not plate and would've bought it. Trust me, he's not in the business to make mistakes. The the acid turned a clear brown and it was also tested in various spots with a Sigma Metalytics Precious Metals Verifier. I don't know how accurate they are, but this device estimated it to be in the 80% alloy range.

The rings are a result of how it was made, called metal spinning. Your theology makes no sense to me, as I've seen loads of silver plate with no rings.

I know exactly what causes the rings & have also seen loads of plated items that didn't have them. I've never seen a sterling or silver alloy that had rings as prominent as this. Most manufacturers polish those out. I didn't say it wasn't silver I just said I was surprised it was.

Well I've never seen it either, but I guess who ever made it felt finishing the outside only was good enough. I'm kinda glad they didn't, as finishing the inside would have removed some of the silver.
