Hello all! I found these at a house site that dates back to at least the 1850s. I'm curious about the piece of lead & the round brass object with an iron back. I think it's too large to be a rosette. Any help is appreciated! Thanks for looking & HH!

Some rosettes were fairly big .. 2 1/4 inches wasn't uncommon .. I believe your item is a rosette.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I have never seen one that big & the iron back threw me for a loop.

It is a little small, but I've seen lead bullets hammered like that and used as pencils. That's why the end is rounded off - from writing with it. When it got too short to sharpen, you threw it away and made a new one. This was a common practice during the Civil War.

Thanks Matt. That had crossed my mind.
