Only been in oil for a day but decided to touch with a toothpick and the layer on front side coming off fairly easily, got very lucky as I thought for sure it going to flake and take detail with it,back side seems a little tougher to let go so will keep soaking. And glad to get one out of the Massachusetts soil that isnt toast...

Great job! You just never know and some of the northeast coppers are pretty rough. Once in awhile you get a nice one. Not sure why this is but I found a spill of 2 kg coppers. One was terrible and one was this

Yours is gonna look pretty nice after the soak. Post the other side when it's done and congrats on an old one

Thank you and nice coin there also, not really sure why some come out toast versus others...wonder if spreading the wood ashes from the old wood stoves back then around outside maybe neutralized the acid in the ground and maybe kept a few coins from rotting away..cause we do have alot of minerals in the ground here.

That's a very interesting theory and makes some sense. The minerals and the constant water saturation sure are tough. I live very close to salt water as well which doesn't help. My couple of Spanish silvers are beautiful though. Don't know man. We need to recover more silver and gold so we don't have to worry about

Pulled some nice detail from that one!

Hey great job pulling a date on that baby. Feels so good when you think there's no hope but amazingly you get more than you ever thought possible
