Well after reading one replay to my post yesterday of one ring possibly being a seal ring I decided to try it out.

Deffinately carved in reverse on the ring for sealing. Heres a post for review.

I though the initials were MMW but the cursive parts don't look right so here it is pressed into wax..Look loke WWM to me.

What do yoU think?

When did people stop using such a thing??

Thanks all . HH.

I don't know, but it's just got that mid-to-late 1800's look about it to me

WWM I think as well.

Congrats on a great find!

You may want to type in "bloodstone signet ring" on ebay (search by sold listings).
1800's I think is probably a good estimate as mentioned above.

WMM. Definitely. That's why there is the higher squiggle in the W. very cool.

I belive yours to be pre 1900's - I have found some from the early 1900's
I have also seen one similar to yours - with a black stone (dont think it was bloodstone)
with an English W in high K gold and also found in RI but not on a beach

what ever you do - dont scrap for gold - if you do - please give me first crack at it = will definitely pay you over scrap value for it

Nope, check the below carefully:

Crusader - I don't see it. How can you guys tell its WWM and not WMM? Is it the lines though the arches? Thanks.

i,M still thinking the stone may be a sard onyx maybe

Not really it's the shape, & flow of the letters, imagine you had a quill pen & were writting it.

Hello all, Wow lots of comments. I just checked in today. I,ve been admiring the ring all day. I won't be scrapping it just yet. I'm going to spend a little time researching prominent families in South Kingstown/Narragansett whose last name be gan with M. And try for some lineage to ID original owner.

I'm guessing woman by the size.

But sooner or later it will be sold. ( kids and college)
Thanks everyone! Bob.

believe it or not - a lot of your seal rings were pinky rings - so it still might be a mans
(it is easier to press from your pinky than your other fingers)
you have to remember - if it is from 1800's - women did not have alot of rights
and documents were handled by men 95% of the time
in a lot of your old movies of old England and France and Roman times - seal rings were on the index and taken off to press or they wold wear the seal around their neck
usually by royalty or people of substance and stature

WWM, And a great seal ring it is too, Congrats. .......................HH
