On February 11, 2008, I found an 18kt white gold diamond ring while at the beach in NC. My brother, dcooper1, originally posted the find. The appraisal is back! It appraised at $6000.00, has a total weight of 1.08 carats in diamonds. We are considering selling at this point, so if anyone is interested.....

Wow, you are so lucky to find the a nice diamond!

Good job!

Richard

Fantastic find!! I'm sure someone cried over losing that one.

that is one beautiful ring... I sure would have a hard time partying with it...

Maybe you should find the owner. Returning it to the real owner would be worth more than any $$$ figure IMO.

I'll give you 5 grand for it.

Just kidding, I couldn't afford it.

That's one of the best ring I've seen. Good job!

Lovely ring and nice find.

It is almost impossible to find an owner of a lost item when detecting at beaches for people come from all over the world to enjoy the waves and sand. Of course, class rings are in a different category.

If selling augments your income then have at it. It is OK and permissible to make a profit from your finds. I know, some people keep everything they have found detecting and for them it is fine... for you... do as you desire without feeling you are letting anyone down in our metal detecting community.

WELL PUT......

Omgoodness! That is lovely! Beautiful! Congrats!

If I had lost that, I would still be crying. :'(

I'm agreeing with Sanat and gregd. If you find a "lost" advertisement in a local paper that more or less describes the ring, give it a call. But, rings are lost over the years and you have found one. Good luck, no matter what you do with it. Peace

Frankly, I think you should keep it. It looks really lovely on your finger! ;D

Congrats on an awesome find!

That looks real similar to the engagement ring I gave my ex wife.....of course she CLAIMS to have "lost" it in Ohio......

Hers only appraised for $900 though and I never told her it was an MD find......

I too would return SOME items to the owner(s) if they could be found. The other side of the coin (or ring) is that whomever lost this very expensive ring has certainly already collected a large sum from the insurance company and therefore would benefit again by having the item returned. The finder in this case would maybe feel good about returning it and only MAYBE get a thank you. The owner would then have the insurance money and the ring. In certain circumstances it would be the proper thing to do, but due to the fact that the owner has probably already collected and replaced it, I would probably keep this one and not feel too bad about it.

What an incredible find !

It would be foolish to buy a ring that expensive and not have it insured..I know some things in life can't be replaced, but most likely the person who lost it isn't $6000 poorer.

Congrats,
Nat
