*UPDATED - ID'd* T2SE Scores Brass . . . ??
Took the T2SE out for its second trial yesterday. Was a bit frustrated w/it in the beginning, but started to get the hang of it (basics anyway) right about dark. Found a 1939 Merc dime and this non-ferrous (brass I think) piece. Any of y'all ever seen or found anything like this? I dug it on an early 20th century farmstead here in the Shenandoah Valley. Some kind of swivel harness/leather attachment?
UPDATE: Creskol (Rob Langdon) sent me an email and solved this one for us. Here's what Rob told me:
"The technical description for what you have is part of Brandoon Chain Swivel, (Brandoon is correct and not mis-spelled) but they are generically and more commonly referred to as a a fancy gag swivels. They are off of a harness.
I am not sure how far back they go, but my catalog of 1892 has them listed. I am sure they go back a bit further in time, at least to the mid 1800's. However, those Civil War fellows, especially from the Confederacy, were an "ingenious-out-of-necessity" sort of people. If they needed to fabricate a sword hanger and had one of these at hand, it wouldn't surprise me a bit that they would fabricate/adapt this sort of thing to fit that application. Heck, I have seen old square nails used for bit repairs, turned into screwdrivers, bent into hooks and all sorts of things.
The Brandoon's are much more scarce than other variations of the same thing, but they all served the same purpose. Here is an Ebay listing for another one (not a Brandoon) but it gives you a good idea."

Thanks Rob!
