That's (pin) is a tough one - any markings on the backside?

Wow , that pin is awsome man - can we see the backside of the pin (I always get a much better feel for an artifact if I can see the back )
 
Looks like possibly a civil war memorial pin.
 
Whitehead and Hoage Can't find tat design online though.

There is a place for a missing pin and "Whitehead and Hoage, Newark NJ" in A tiny circle thats it.

the pin is not civil war...notice the flags are both US flags...not the us flag an confederate flag...

probable veterans organization...Spanish American war period. if I read the above link correctly, whitehead an Hogue were in business from 1895-1915...
