V Nickels -- I Will Find You

Just started in this hobby of CRHing. I did my first box of nickels about two weeks ago...got all the way through to the second to last roll without finding anything, no silver, no buffalo, no nothing. Then on that second to last roll of the box...an 1894 V!

I am trying to decide if I should ever do another box of nickels or if I should quit while I'm ahead on them!

Overall I've had great success in my short time in the hobby.

I've only done one box of dimes - found 4 rosies.
The V-Nick in the first and only box of Nickels.
First box of halves = (2) WLH, (1) Franklin
First week of roadtripping scored me a solid roll of 1964 Kens.
Scored a silver rosie in change from Dunkin Donuts while on a roadtrip..

Maybe I've peaked too early????

Good luck to you on finding your V!

Those are some excellent finds. Might as well keep hunting. From what I've seen the 7 or so weeks I've been doing this is that it is pretty much 100 percent LUCK. I've done thousands in CWR and had handful after handful of clad, then BAM, get a solid roll of 40% and 90%. I've had boxes of nickels yield me 38 and 29 Buffalo Nickels respectively, and then some boxes give up nothing. I'm gonna keep hitting the Nickels until I can score a V Nickel. No slowing down or quitting here!! Keep at it lockespop!!

Only Vickie I ever found was with my metal detector..

I've probably searched ~$2500 worth of nickels lifetime. Never found a "V". Even worse, only 1 buffalo in that $2500 and it was a chrome plated specimen from a jewelry piece. In about 30 years of off-and-on metal detecting, I have only dug 1 V and that was last year. A couple of months ago my mother pulled into a dollar store parking lot and found a nickel on the pavement. 1902 V. Go figure. ;D

Keep at it. You'll find that V! :icon_thumleft:

I've had a good year for nickels. Found three V nickels this year, only three I've ever found. First was a few months ago -- 1900. Found a 1910 and 1911 this weekend in the same box! The 1911 was close to Fine condition...

Keep at it, it has to happen one of these days!

I've been doing nickels when i have the funds on and off for about 3 months. i've gone through maybe 50 boxes including 4 today. I have found one lonely V nickel but i was very happy with it. It was a 1911 and i really think it was a fluke because i thought it was a joke when it came out of the roll. Now buffalo nickels i've found 15. 2 unreadable due to some red gunk on the front. i tend to always hope for buffalo's while secretely dreaming for more V nickels:)

you'll find one soon my man

Hi Farchaus2k,
I have found 14 V-nickels in the wild (all boxes) since I have been CRHing. They are out there. Just keep plugging away. Expect more dateless buffs and war nickels--but you will find them.

Good Luck!

AWESOME!! Thank you all for the stories. I've been strictly doing boxes of nickels, since CWR's of nickels have been brutal for me, but I think I might give the CWR's a try again as well. Honestly, I've found the nickels to be a good source of silver and older coins while I toil through box after box of skunks in halves (16 box streak right now). On a happy note though I've managed to pull 7 1950-D Jefferson Nickels. So all in all I'm not complaining. Again HH and HH to you all!!

Seven 50 D's?!?!?!?!?!

Wow, that's incredible if you ask me. I've found less 50Ds than I have V nickels :tongue3:

Yeah it's kinda crazy. I've done real well on 1950-D Jefferson's and 1938-S Jefferson's (got 5 of those).
