Had an enjoyable morning detecting with my wife. Still working the property in Seven Valleys, PA that I've been hunting for a while. It's given up a lot of 1700s coins. Today I found a 1773 Virginia halfpenny! It's a variety where the harp has eight strings. Also found 3 large throwing horse shoes (not photographed). Here is a link to more info on this coin.

Virginia Halfpence: Introduction

This site has given up 5 or 6 KG IIs (one clipped), a VT copper, a CT cooper, a Woods Hibernia and now a VA halfpenny. The DFX still kills it!

I don't know if it's the DFX or you, but that's an excellent find. Great variety to boot.

Keep up your great work, and the DFX assists;) lol

Thanks. I'll add that this coin was a solid 13" down too. Most have been in the 8-10" range.

Congratulations, great coin. Not going to find anything that old in my area. Hope your site has more goodies for you.

Ok, 13" is a monstrous depth. I revise my user/machine ratio to 50/50. Lol

Good ears man

Haha. This site has great soil conditions. Using a 13" Ultimate coil (it's on my machine 90% of the time). A buddy was with me last week and found the Hibernia at about the same depth with a Fisher F75.

Those coppers are a dime a dozen down here in Va, but outside the state they're a pretty uncommon find. And yours is in better shape than almost all of mine. Nice find!

You're not helping my hopes for finding one in NJ/NY Bill! Lol.

I remember when you showed me all of your Virginias at your place my eyes popped out, kind of like a cartoon. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1467586295.025521.jpg
