Hello all, Its been a while since Ive posted. Last week I was on vacation at Williamsburg Va. I got in a little diggin time there.I had the pleasure of meeting up with Sentinel and we hunted a couple of his sites. I dug some great stuff there. It was very hot 95 degrees with heat index of 110. We worked hard for the finds and it was well worth it. I recovered 1- .58 cal. three ringer, 1- .69 cal. three ringer, 1-.69 cal. round ball, and a baggage or dog tag (pet type) that we think is from late 1800s.I had an awesome time there with Josh.Next I went to a site that I got permission to last year.It is an AWESOME site.A guy I met there last year belongs to a hunt club where the house was built in 1658.Once there, I dug a shotgun shell and a 1983 nickle. Then the guy says " lemme dig for you". I say what? He says" gimme the shovel and you point". Okay. The third hole he turned the plug over. I pinpointed and retrieved the item. First glance I thought it was a tent or tarp rivet. Iturned it over and it was a BUTTON! MAN! My FIRST dug button. I brushed it of a little and could see it was a CW New York three piece Extra Quality button. After this we dug a couple more holes but I could not concentrate. So we quit and enjoyed an ice cold beverage. I cleaned it up and it has an amazing amount of gilt left on it. I had an AWESOME time there.

Thanx for lookin, getty

I hear ya. Sometimes you just have to slow down and do the social stuff. It is tough sometimes!

Man Roger, you out did yourself this time. :icon_thumleft: That button is awesome, along with everything else. Happy to hear you got to meet up with Josh, he seems to have some great spots down there and your spot definitely paid off big time. Haven't been able to get out this weekend, been busy canning and doing the normal house crap. :( Hopefully next weekend I'll be able to get out there - having swinging withdrawl :laughing7: Very nice finds :icon_thumleft:

Thanx alot, I cant wait till we go down to the new site. Im glad to have found that site.Hopefully within the next few weeks.

Love those buttons! WTG :icon_thumleft:

Roger, I'm glad you had fun man and got your FIRST Civil War Button and a Nice one too. :headbang: The buttons down here come out with alot of gilt on them as witnessed on your New York Button! In addition, you have a .69 Belgian which is a nice addition to your collection :occasion14: I had a great time digging with you buddy and just wish we had more time that we could've hit a couple other sites. I look forward to seeing you again as well as my buddy Joe and Colleen hopefully in just a couple weeks! :icon_thumleft:  :occasion14:

P.S. My buddy James Bibb came down and dug with me yesterday and found a killer Colonial Buckle. Its the biggest of its type I've ever seen and a good chance that it's mid to late 1600's era.

congrats on the sweet button and for getting to hunt with Josh!! he is quite an ambassador of this hobby!

alderan33- Thanx

sentinel- It was a GREAT time! Next trip we will have more time. But I like those sites.Thanx for everything Josh.

cntrydncr1- thanx and you are correct about Josh

Love that VA sandy soil....

Nice NY.. I have several that I've found in VA, and they all seem to have a lot of gold gilt still remaining. I found a NY Coat button here in KY on top of a hill that was an artilliary position near Bardstown, KY that has no gilt left at all.

The VA sandy soil really lets the water run through it, and keeps the buttons in good condition, even after 140+ years.

Nice find!
