Those were better times when a lost watch and a visiting women made it to the papers!

Totally. Simpler times. Nicer times.

Not sure it was nicer times, most people would hide their money if they didn't have a bank in town yet for fear of getting robbed. HH

If its still in the dirt, it is not nice anymore!

It is nice still, thise were the times of Morgan Dollars and Gold Eagles!!!

In those times I guess there was no FDIC insurance, so a jar wirh gold and silver wasnt a bad idea anyway.....

Did a little research on this today. Hard to pin-point the exact plot location on the modern map but I'd say it would be difficult to find and even more difficult to get permission with all the modern development. Still if you happen to come across this thread and you live in the area might be worth a shot as there is an open lot that you could probably try your hand at. Looking at maybe a thousand dollar melt value find.. maybe. Not confident enough for me to justify a 2 hour drive :(

Great research and maps! I'm sure someone will take a swing at it one day!

Eman1000, nice research. What year map was that? Long time since we last chatted. Give me a shout someday to go detecting.

1893 for Wayne County. I'd love to go hunt but my son is a senior this year and were running around doing all kinds of activities before he graduates and heads to Anderson in the Fall. I'm lucky to get our for an hour or two at most... Hopefully things slow down a bit in the fall.

Note to self - check to see if the item has been found before you spend your lunch hour researching the location. 🤣
Show the Homeowner the Article on the Loss.
Ignore the Conclusion :laughing7:
