I dont think you actually get more depth but a better response tone of a deep barely audible signal. Max Boost is where you'll gain a inch or two depending on the cooperation of the ground your hunting

My deepest coin so far with the V was a liitle better than 10 inches(measured) on a 1984 dime. Sens at 9, disc just past tab(mucho tabs at this place), stock coil. Very light signal, but definitely repeatable and not clipped.

Depending on the ground your hunting, you will most certainly get a little more depth (an inch - MAYBE 2). I regularly keep my sensitivity at nine with the stock coil (when hunting old home sites in town) - I'm yet to have any "depth issues". In fact, I have picked up tiny (literally) "threads" of iron at six to seven inches in lousy red clay. If I'm hunting fields, I'll keep my sens. set at 10. The few times I have "super-tuned" my Vaquero (in the fields) I definitely noticed an increase in the deeper signals. The most important thing for me to watch (at least in the soil here in NC) is the ground balance. When the Vaquero is dialed in properly, it's a deep-a$$ machine for sure...

Thanks for the replies so far everyone, some good information.

John...I don't know the answer to your questions but in a couple of weeks I am going back to my home in south Alabama. There is a couple of fields there that I know have relics buried in the 18 to 20 inch range. I am going to test each and every signal with different settings on my Vaq. then go back over it supertuned. I will let you know what I find.

That sounds good Randy, look forward to the results.

I tested supertune this way...I placed a quarter at 9.5 inches in sand (max discrimination with sens cranked and threshold at recommended setting). The reading was inconsistant but the quarter broke silence. Then I "super tuned" the Vaquero. It was struggling to maintain stability but detected the Quarter with a solid signal in both directions. Btw, While the 9x8 concentric coil maintained depth superiority, my 5.75 widescan was able to detect the quarter in super-tuned mode at the same depth.
