Started out today bright and early with NeilinWestJersey at an old mill site filled with trash! Managed to pull one CW Eagle cuff button out before we left. Hit up another spot with nothing to show but about 50 shotgun shells. Neil got a nice tombac and a bunch of modern change. Left around 12 to meet up with my mom to do some fields. Went to our go-to field where I pulled my first seated dime and it was freshly turned over! Made a B Line to the spot I found my dime and within 15 minutes and 50 feet away I pull out a beauty. 1877 CC Seated Liberty Quarter! My very first and oldest so far. Mom found 3 indians 1865 and up and a merc and a handful of buttons. Still psyched , shame there is a scratch on the front it would probably grade at VF. Thanks for lookin! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the correction on the button UMR. I always automatically think CW with a 2 piece eagle :tongue3:

I didn't notice that you had labeled it CW.. I was too excited to read when I saw the seated quarter :laughing9: (still haven't found one :laughing7: )

Wow! Nice one! I ended up with $2.35 and a beat up old Tombac and you found a great Seated!!! It is the third seated and the third CC coin from that area. There must have been a few rolls of them in town back in the day and they worked their way into circulation and then into the farm fields.

I think the old mill site is hiding a few more finds but it should wait until the vegetation dies off a bit. If you can toothpick the cuff button I can get you an ID on it. When you say "Indian Wars" do you mean pre CW. 1775–1842?

I think of these wars, which were the Indian Wars East of the Mississippi:
* American Revolutionary War
* Chickamauga wars
* Northwest Indian War
* Tecumseh, the Creek War, and the War of 1812
* Removal era wars
* Second Seminole War

Great find!

I saw you modified your reply, so I'll modify this one. If you click on the link, it shows when that design was in use. 1875-1902, although I'm not exactly certain the time frame of the Indian Wars, this design is referred to as an Indian Wars eagle button.

1870-1890 is typically what I think of when I hear "Indian Wars". U.S. Govt built alot of Forts out West along the Migration Trails to protect the folks from Indian Raids.

A great find for your collection for sure...congrats!
