Hi all,

Dug this about 2 hours ago at an 1870 house site, looks very old and cameo must have been good quality to have survived in the ground for so long. Actually there was a house next to it that was torn down years ago that may have been even older. It's a beautiful piece and I'm glad I went by there again, pounded the place for over 30 hours since last fall and still finding a few cool things here and there. Any help appreciated on what might be and approximate age.

Nat

Neat buckle. It's Victorian in age (mid 19th century), but the costume goes back, kinda retro to early 1800's. Nice, nice find.

Very nice find Natman congrats!

Small sash buckle with a painted porcelain picture of a curly haired lady in a ridding habit?

When I was cleaning it off I noticed the picture was darkening...it turns out the image was on an oval shaped plastic "lens" that came off. Behind it was a paper backing that disintegrated. I put the lens back on with a new paper backing and it looks fine now. I'm wondering about the age of this piece since it's not actually a cameo, but more like an image that was inside the plastic piece.
