it appears to be copper or a similar metal alloy. Were reales silver?

King George III colonial copper. Hard to date exactly without being able to see the reverse detail. Should be between 1790 to 1810. Nice find.

Counterfiet (most likely) although maybe regal George III Halfpenny, circa 1775.

It appears to be a George III from 1770's, but to NOT eliminate a Machins Mills piece or Vermont copper. As you're in NY, any of these is certainly a possibility. Great find. Would love to see more pics.

It looks like a cooked Lucius Lucullus 100-50 BC...lol j/k

You can barely make out a profile, but it does appear to be a KG of sorts

Even if it is a counterfeit... its still from that period. There were many counterfeit coins circulating during that time period.

First and foremost struck counterfeit coins are struck with counterfeit dies so a ctft. coin will not match a genuine one exactly, but many are very close. The tell tail signs for counterfeits is the weight, diameter & width, and sometimes the metal. A coin like yours with that much wear is often tough to say, and quite honestly it doesn't matter. A low grade or common counterfeit George III halfpenny or a regal one in similar condition are basically looked at in the same way because they both circulated in huge numbers. That said, there are some very rare and valuable counterfeits, mainly the rarer American Machin's Mills.

Basically by what IP stated, although probability plays a part in it, most of your Geo III were counterfieted at the same time as the regals circulated.
