✅ SOLVED Very Unusual Piece of Pottery Recovered from New York State

This odd ceramic shard was recovered from low tide of a tidal river last week East of New York City by a friend. There appears to be some written language on it (almost resembling runes). The piece is approximately palm-sized. Anyone care to provide info on age, origin use?

I'll just throw this out for more discussion b/c I really don't know... but maybe it is a piece from a Bartmann / Bellarmine jug. There are so many designs. Here is one with some similarities --
