Victims of an Unholy Civil War

These are the words carved on the stone of a Father & his son who were 'hanged' by people who had opposing views during the 'Civil War'.
The ones hanged were named Park, the family & friends were allowed to sing hymms & pray before the hanging.
The local creek is called 'Widow creek', & the road 'Widow maker rd'.
The grave is in a field, (owned by a cranky guy), so I took a pic from the road, you can make out a chain link fence around it.

Thanks, In the years following the war, the 'ringleader' returned to the area as a 'preacher', & while holding a service, the brother of the hanged man suddenly 'left the service'.
The 'preacher' then decided to leave very quick like.

were the victims pro or anti union ? if they were pro union after the war the members of the of the lynching group would have been hunted down by the "law" most likely for commiting a "war" crime -- so I have a feeling the lynched men were pro southern. I am I right?

I checked my paper's on this, but couldn't tell which side they were on, I am almost certain this whole area was 'pro southern', because the county seat town was burned by Union troops except one house which was 'pro union'.
A brother was 'spared' to provide for the family, he never took any action against these men, (the one who left the church service).

humm "they" spared one son to provide for the mom--- how kind--- in today's world they would kill al of em --- l men,women and kids -- maybe because they "spared" him and the women folk was why he didn't seek revenge later -- that or else he know that he was in a pickle being the "lone" wolf -- and that he was sorely "out gunned" and thus powerless --- sad either way --they should have just drove them off rather than killed them -- whichever side they were on --- Ivan

I spent quite a bit of time, page by page, going through a 10 or 12 volume set of Matthew Brady's photographs of the CW, when I was younger...

I don't think there was much about the whole thing that wasn't tragic.
