This very little find is definately one of my very best. :hello2:
It is a viking age sword amulet / talisman found at a viking age trading place.
The amulet is only 3 cm (1.18 inches) long and a very rare find.

It is nicely ornamented and on the back it has a small eye so that it could be carried.
I am not exactly sure of the dating of the amulet, but it would be from the period between 750 and 950 AD.

The amulet was found at a viking age site that I discovered in the spring of 2008.
The place has given me and my detector collegue many, many finds since then.
The total of finds, counting all the small pieces too, would be running up to a thousand till today.

Enjoy this little beauty ! :)

Wouldn't mind one of those myself :notworthy:

Do you have any viking finds in your area, CRUSADER ?

... or is it only that Roman and Celtic stuff ? :laughing7:

only just, I'm on the edge of the Dane Law. So maybe only get 2-3 items a year :icon_thumright:

You gotta cross that "border" then, to get more Viking pieces ! ;D

Nice Dane, I also vote banner and I DID hit the nominate for banner icon.... :icon_thumright:

My detector collegue and I have "the job" of seaching the place. We messure in all finds with GPS and send all finds to the museum and get a finders fee for them.

Good thing you don't live in the USA, Land of the Free!

You have a banner vote from me, as well. I think it is a terrific find. Do you happen to know the material it is made from? Bronze? Copper? I am, also, surprised at the shallow depth at which it was found.....I would have thought something that old would have sunk further down by now?

Really outstanding find !! :o :icon_thumleft:

That patina screams 10th Century !! :notworthy: :headbang:

Keep @ It and HH !! ;D :D

Thank you all !! :icon_thumleft:

I would guess the material to be more copper than bronze due to the patina. Actually this find is much more "attacked" than some other bronze or copper finds from the place, that have a very nice dark green - almost black patina.

The shallow depth is because it is on a field that is under plow. The layers are plowed up every year, and are sturred around. We are NOT allowed to dig deeper than the plowing / culture layer.

You said you get a finders fee....he means in America you wouldn't..it'd have to be "free". :)

I need to get myself across the öresund bridge someday, only an hours drive away.Bet you're not near Copenhagen anyway right? Damn Swedes won't let me dig their goodies here!! >:(

Congrat's on a great little find, and the banner. Best of luck for the future. :icon_thumright:
