Vin Mariani (1863) Cocaine wine

Cocaine wine was a popular 19th-century tonic, most notably Vin Mariani (1863), which blended Bordeaux wine with coca leaves. Developed by chemist Angelo Mariani, it was marketed as a health restorative, exploiting the stimulant effects of cocaine (approx. 6–7 mg per ounce). The drink influenced the creation of Coca-Cola before cocaine was banned in 1914.
