Location: San Bernadino hills, California.
I sometimes hunt a private state owned area, I'm an employee there and have unlimited access. The place has a documented history dating back to the 1800's but I haven't found much of anything except some old iron scrap metal.
Yesterday I went to the lowest part of the hill and started swinging, I found a few square head nails AND was pleasantly surprised to find a wheat penny. I also found a cool looking Vintage Coors can, right on top of the earth, which means this spot has been relatively undisturbed for quite a few years.
I'm planning on hitting this area hard, hopefully I hit some old silver and gold!
