Vintage Winchester thingy lol

I’ve been seeing these little black pegs on the beach here for the past year I’ve been beachcombing...I am so curious what they actually are! Last week, I saw them sticking out of the beach in a uniform placement...as if they were sticking out of something underneath..they pulled right out, so not sure...but then a couple of days later, I found one that had a red plastic topper and what looks like a cloth-like padding under it...the plastic says “Winchester made in USA”...which I assume means they are some sort of gun item...it’s the first clue I’ve gotten lol 🤷🏻*♀️ I see the pegs often...mostly in the cylinder shape like this one, but sometimes I see them with rounded ends etc...but these are the most common...I have no idea what they are made of...they clink like ceramic though...hoping someone here can help me solve this mystery! Lol

I believe what you have is a Winchester battery that have carbon cores. The pegs or battery cores you’re finding are probably a 6 or 9 or even up to 67 volt battery that are really nothing more then 1.5 volt Winchester batteries tied together in a pack to make the battery pack.
