I am pretty sure that the rectangular piece is a sash buckle, while the size and construction of the W is consistent with harness lettering, specifically those that were applied to a hame cover, and is post war.

Thanks, I did not think it was military but I have been wrong a lot and needed some input.

What are the four marks on the back of the W? Looks like injection moulding marks.

Yes... there were brass "pins" at each of those places on the letter's back.
