Wacky Wheats

Last night and this morning I went through 4 boxes of pennies. The number of wheats they produced wad amazing. In them was 282 Wheats (and 47 Canadians)! Even stranger was that 18% of the Wheats were S's. I live in the northeast and S's (even D's to some extend) are tough to come by. And this is right before my West Coast trip. Very strange, I think. I got seven new varieties from these boxes (1916, 1941S, 1946S, 1947S, 1949D, 1954S, 1955S).

I also got a silver quarter, 1964, from two boxes of quarters and a Mercury, 1943, from two boxes of dimes. It was a damn good night!

Just remember, CRHing while on a trip is much, much easier if you drive. It's awfully tough to get bags of "rescued silver" through the airport these days. 8)

One of the better wheatie bonanzas this year, congrats kestrelia! I got a wheatie in my change about an hour ago and wouldn't you know it, it was a 1950-D, one of the few post-1940 dates that eluded you. What a study in contrasts. Now if I could only find a 50-D nickel...

I only count about 50. Unless I am missing something, out of 282 that is only about 18%.

Either way, I have yet to receive any amount this year which even closely resembles that kind of success. Your per box average for the four boxes is higher than my best box ever. Nice find.
