✅ SOLVED Long Steel Boxes with Holes

These boxes were free at a garage sale. The owners wanted them gone but didn't know what they were.

They're made from thin gauge steel and measure 44 1/2" long x 6 1/4" high x 10 1/4" across at the top x 11 1/2" long at the base. They have 5/8" holes all over. The bases/bottoms slide open. One has been fitted with additional steel brackets.

I tried using Google lens twice. Once it said these were grill parts and another time it brought me to a reddit post where the top comment was deleted, so not very helpful!

Someone on reddit suggested they were for washing parts, but these are simple magnetic steel and would not hold up to most solvents.

Does look like the trays/baskets you put in a parts cleaner.

True, if they are mild steel they would rust in water or water solutions. But they should be fine in organic solvents like paint thinner.

My first thought was a little smoke box, put your wood chips in and you can get smoke on a gas grill
