They are also called "rein terrets." Note the picture, where the rein comes from the bit to the horses back is where it passes through the ring. The harness in the picture, the rings are mounted on what's called the "belly band." The wagon is pulled from collar, well actually the collar is padding, the tugs are actually attached to the wooden "hames," that are buckled to the collar, and the wagon is kept from rolling up on the horse with a "britchin' and hold back straps."
