wallace 950?

so before I get to excited I want to see what everybody else thinks or knows, I picked up a compote for 2.50 inside the base it's marked Wallace 950 the bowl of it has a copper colored enamel, is it 95% silver?

couldn't get the camera to focus in on the markings on the base and my flash is broken so I'm only putting up the one pic it shows the enamel and most of the rest of it

yeah I saw that one! but I saw one like mine on etsy that somebody sold as silver plated maybe they didn't know what they had

turns out any of the wallace items that have enamel are plated, acid test started off bright red and quickly turned blue the 950 is the pattern number not the purity, not a big loss as it was only 2 dollars and change

I still came out ahead picked up 1.5 ounces of sterling jewelry for 5 dollars at that same sale

I've yet to see any American silver companies produce any pure silver outside of .925 / sterling, that isn't saying they never did? it's just my observation so far. 2 bucks ain't no loss, should get more back out of it. It's a nice antique. I found a silver plate item that had .925 stamped on it in a flea market and I could tell someone did it with a punch set you can buy a Harbor Freight Tool. They listed it as silver plate, so I guess they were honest about it, but threw a hook out for some sucker who would come along thinking he knew something they didn't. It was priced over the value you would generally find on silver plate pieces, but would be a great price on a piece of pure silver.

if you still have this item it might be Sheffield plate. I know certain pieces and makers of Sheffield (Sheffield may be misspelled) plate are very valuable and are silver plated and some of these can exceed there value of similar sterling pieces.

It's a Wallace piece, no relation to Sheffield plate. But yes you are right, true old Sheffield plate can be worth good money.

I've been doing some looking and these compotes don't do bad ill probly put it in my booth and ask 5 just to move it along plus at that price I'm still doubleing my money
