Wanted: Sand Screw

if actually in the water this won't help but if in sand you might try a barn auger, available at feed/farm supply houses.........gldhntr

The Sand Screw was a novel idea but was more trouble than it was worth and it was only for dry sand.

Suction dredges are a nice idea that didn't pan out for retrieval for me on a beach. You move yards of material hoping to locate goodies and cloud up the water at the beach and you had to fill in your holes too. However it worked fine in deeper water where the big stuff was. Maybe someday someone will come out with a tiny dredge that you wear on your back and stick the nozzle near the coil to suck up the coin or ring. Just thinking here......... ;)

I made one a while back, it is on the forum with pics under an old username (I believe the title of the thread was just sand screw). It worked fine as long as you were in the water, I did end up adding a flap to the end to keep stuff from falling back out which helped a bit. I havn't used it since last year however, been too busy prospecting and such and not near any good swimming beaches at the moment.
