F-51 (more popularly known as the P-51, in the colors shown it is post WWII - and so is known by it's later designation, "F")

Good pics. How did the P40 and P51 differ? I think it was the old P47 Thunderbolt that was the fastest in WW2.In a dive,I believe it would do 427mph which was faster than the German jets at that time and that's why we didn't burn rubber trying to get a jet into the war.Love those old planes.I had a many hr in the B47,B52,KC135(about 1000hrs),but the oldest I flew in was a B25 and of course a C45 and a C47.Oldest I worked on was the B29.Forgot,I also flew on the civilian C118,super connie w/triple tail.

Yet another oldy ;D

Gee, memories, I very possibly have worked on the F-106 in the background, since Fresno aircraft were at our base many times over the years. LOL, but I did not ever work on a F-102.
On my Mugs photo, I am standing in front of the F106B model that I crewed for many years.
Guess now I will have to go out to our base and photograph our static displays, they are mounted in the flight position with the navigation lights working at night. :)

Don

Thanks for sharing these pics with us, AA. Brought back memories of the different bases I visited in my military career, where these warbirds were on static display.

;) RR

Warsawdaddy and RR this is the one i think Don worked on because its on the ground.Just kidding Don ;) AA

F-4....my favorite! We launched a lot of them over Vietnam. They smoked too much was their problem. Easy to spot them coming.

F-4 Phantoms? Is that right? At least once a week, I hear a strange plane flying high...memories of the C-130. That's what it sounds like.

;) RR

Yep. Phantom. When they shot down a mig over Nam they would come back to the ship and, just before landing, would peel off sideways and do a victory roll. Always brought a cheer from the flightdeck.

Don - Although I never wrenched on the great Delta Dart I did spend many years guarding them on alert for NORAD at Griffiss AFB, knew all the crews, and watched many launch during the Cold War on intercept missions. I'm positive we owned the last operational squadron of 106s in the ADAF (The 49 FIS/ADTAC).

Damn near every sortie came back on an IFE... LOL... I guess they were showing their age. I still have a great picture of one hanging in my office.
