After digging a flew flat buttons in Central VA was excited to save this War of 1812 officers button with lots of the Sheffield silver plating left. Cleaned up nice. I thought it was another flat but saw a tiny bit of gilt and writing.

Very nice! We had a fort within a few miles of where I live which was occupied during the war of 1812, but the land is now part of a church and inaccessible. I would LOVE to dig a button as nice as yours. Nice recovery!
 
I have quite a few "U*S" War of 1812 buttons, and they do not hold a candle to an officers button like that. Gorgeous!!
