Well the blade shows Archaic flaking and the rock looks grooved to me but for what IDK. Thought maybe pestle till I saw the end. Maybe somebody else will know. Glad you got to get out and have a look.

I wonder if you have Grooved Hammers in your area? I know we have pitted hammers here.

I may get corrected on this... But... I think you have a 1/2 grooved or a notched tool. What really draws me to this piece is how quick and crude it was made. Made??? Perhaps, never finished due to lithic. It's not every day that a sloppy grooved piece comes along. You know me Painter, I am naturally drawn to the underdog artifacts. I think you have a great couple of finds!

It almost looks like a full groove, except the backside doesn't appear to have any groove...geofact, IMO.
Very nice blade too!

nice blade Painter,i think the other may be a tool, but a war club would be better made i think,as you would want the best to go into battle

Man, that is some cool stuff, wish I could help with the classification but I'm learning myself. Good finds!

Well thanks everyone guess the one piece will find a home in my rock garden the home of misfit crude tools

I would hold tight to that piece Painter. I look at the bit/ working edge. It's looking worked from my angle. Jamey, I must disagree to an extent with you. I know people need a good old beating. Not only do they need a beating, they need to be beat with something ugly. lol!

Haha thanks NC I think I got a special place picked for it ;) the problem with my creek is the beating the artifacts take in a flood wipes away valuable information and evidence I need for signs of use or wear . I do have a feeling this one was used for something . But who knows.......

I am pretty sure that was used at one time. You can clearly see where the handle would have been at.

I saw this thread this morning and wanted to respond but didn't have time . The blade is what caught my eye. In the picture it appears obviously to have been knapped.so as to be hafted in the middle of the blade and if so would have been wielded like an axe. I have seen flint (chert) axes or if one prefers the term axe handled blades but they're certainly not very common, at least not in my area. Neat piece, congrats!

Possibly w/ the perhaps might be worn groove ring around center . artifact for sure if not club then grind stone. But definitely worked by the hand of man.

Unless time wasn't on your side......
