Okay. Have been getting used to my Minelab Safari over the last several months and love it. While we've had some down time due to the Winter weather, I decided to pick up the AT Pro. I went out to a local ballpark the other day when the temps finally rose. Everything was a muddy mess, but it didn't kill my detecting spirit. This was my first time ever on an AT Pro. I put the settings at Pro Custom, Disc out all iron to 40, notched out everything below like 75 and the clad coins started to fly. I realize I could have missed some jewelry, nickels, etc. I just wanted to do some basic coin shooting on a semi-descent weather day, so that's fine.
My question is after digging about 25 coins in a row all were at 8" on the depth readout??? Is that just were Garrett has these machines set to show up on everything in the Pro Custom mode? The only other thing I could figure is someone had come through with a machine before me that detected everything 1-6" and cleared those out, then I came with ATP and hit everything just out of their reach. ??? Just seems odd to me. Any guesses or solutions would be appreciated

Well if everything was cleared out at 1-6" as you say and you were getting everything out of their reach at 8" what is the problem?

He's getting a sore back from digging so many deep targets.....:icon_thumright:

Could they have put fill in recently?

How about taking one of those newly dug coins and sticking it in the ground at 4" and see what the ATP says ///// Perry

I would say that the area had been scanned by those with less powerful detectors, or maybe given that the targets were that deep, other machines registered it as junk, where the ATP was able to provide a more accurate reading.

No problem with it Rob. Just never seen anything exactly like it while detecting. I mean no fluctuation in depth amongst 25-30 dug coins in a single outing? All 8" readings.

No. This ballpark has remained unchanged for many years besides the kid's playground area, which is not an area I was digging in. Just seemed strange of all targets at the exact same depth?? Not complaining, just puzzled. Impressed with the machine thus far

Just try diggin somewhere else, see what happens. But I wouldn't complain much, that's pretty impressive

Great idea Perry, I wish I had thought of that while there. Going back out tomorrow and even to that same location. Looking forward to seeing results and depth indications on tomorrow's digs

They read 8 in. on the depth indicator but did you actually dig 8 in. to get them out.....you could try switching modes when you get a hit and see if there is a difference on the readout....also could be the coil size you are using.....take some coins to the same location an bury them @ 2,4,6,and 8inches and see what happens.

Do an air test and see if the same thing is happening.....if you always get a 8 in. readout then something is not right....I'd give Garrett a call.

How physically deep were the actual coins you dug? Can you remember? I'll eat my shorts if you found one 8" deep coin, and I'll stand on my head and spit silver war nickels if you found 25 8" deep coins in a good season. It sounds like if you dig a 2" deep coin and the tecter said it was in china, you would believe it.

Your on a roll today gleaner. Lol ;)

Stick to topic Reiman please or else

Were the coins you dug all 8 inches deep?...the suspense is killing us.

Gleaner, get out those edible shorts and go ahead and stand on your head. Yes everyone, the coins were at 8". None of the holes were shallow and mostly coins were either in the bottom of deeply dug plug or I had to scoop a little more dirt from hole after plug was removed. None of my targets that day were shallow at all. Impressed with the AT Pro so far and I am digging it literally. Went back out today to the same park and did find a couple readings at 6" but was mostly back to 8" readings?? Haven't got a shallow depth reading yet with the AT Pro.

Awesome LAG I will get the catsup and Grey Poupon, my shorts aint edible. I guess the atpro does have accurate id but I never look at it. Atp is a good machine but can hardly be compared to a safari. What dates on those deepies?

Agreed. I love my Safari as well. Unfortunately, all coins dug were modern clad. This is not a real old park and probably only dates back to the early to mid 70's.

Remember you're probably swinging 1"- 2" above the ground so in reality you probably digging 6". It is possible someone went through and cherry picked. Don't rely on the depth it says it is either. If your getting a good strong signal it's most likely not 8". My signal is weak at 8" unless it is a can or something
