Relic Hunting
Myself and a couple buddies got out to a newly discovered Civil War camp this weekend, and managed to do pretty well! The site is massive! We were finding relics here and there in a 300 yard or so stretch. Finds were pretty sparse though, so it may not have been occupied for very long. Anyway, one of my buddies ended up finding two belt keepers on the first day, so we knew we were on the site. My other hunting buddy found a Springfield bayonet scabbard tip and a 3-ringer in the same hole. I got two dropped and two carved 3-ringers, a William's Cleaner bullet, two J-hooks, two button backs, and a carpet bag lock on the first day. The second day started with a dropped 3-ringer as my very first target, so that got us pumped. My very next target was something completely unexpected! I get a deep 70s signal on the AT Pro, and out pops this awesome little brass eagle! Any ideas what it is? I can't find anything like it! It's heavily gold plated on the front and there is a red stone or piece of glass in one of the eyes. It's a really cool little piece! The rest of the day went pretty slow after that, but I still managed to pull out two dropped and one fired 3-ringer, two William's Cleaner bullets, and some camp lead. In total we found 14 bullets, 6 button backs, 4 J-hooks, 2 flat buttons, two belt keepers, a scabbard tip, a carpet bag lock, and a bunch of camp lead. All in all it was a great weekend!

Very nice saves, congratulations!

Nice finds. I like the eagle. Congrats

Beautiful history collection! I love the “waving” eagle with ruby colored eye but can’t help identify it..HH

possible Jeff Davis hat pin or flag top finial ????

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Google eagle drum tensioner or civil war banjo head tensioner. Maybe one of those. Nice find!

An excellent relics recovery and great reward for your research. Keep us posted on what else appears. Congrats!

Nice finds, here is a drum tensioner I found. It could be part of one. Hard to say. Congrats

Looks like in the picture showing finds in the palm of your hand, you also found a gold plated ring?

Great finds!

The earlier suggestions of drum tensioner or banjo part are my first guess.

Nice finds!

Thanks everyone! What confuses me about the eagle is that there is no obvious attachment point and it doesn't look like anything was ever soldered to it.

DeepseekerADS, I did find the ring as well. I completely forgot about it!

Eagle Eye

Does the eagle have a red garnet for its eye?

Yes, it has a red stone of some kind set in it's eye. It probably had one in both eyes, but the other one is missing.

Reminds me of camp art but those pieces are generally lead.I like it though, very nice!
