I hunted a couple of hours Fri. afternoon and found the silver thimble and the Knights of the Pythian button. Sat I was invited to hunt a area that was one of Gen Curtis's camps. It was really tough hunting but we managed a few finds. Sun. I was invited to hunt a friend's sisters old home site. Jim had never been detecting before so I let him use my extra XLT and showed him the basic info to to get him started. This was a old area with a 1840's abandoned cemetary near by. This was a large area and another buddy Steve came along to give us a hand.
I didn't have a lot of time to detect due to answering Jim's questions so I found a few good targets and had him check them and dig them. This home is in a large river valley and the family lore was that the Union army got water from the spring on the property. I soon realized the area around the spring was dozed to form a pond so nothing but clad change was found in that area.
Jim was not sure if we should check in the yard so we waited untill his sister returned to make sure. In the meantime Jim was occupied digging so I ventured a little further away and dug a silver spoon in the corral area. Jim's sister and her family returned and I showed her the spoon and offered to give it to her but she said I should keep it. She also gave us permission to hunt up by the house. I felt like Jim sould be the one to hunt that area later on his own. But if he has trouble I wil help him out. Tsgman
