On Friday I hit the backyard of a home built in 1820 and my first signal was a beauty. Out popped this awesome 1846 Large Cent from 2 inches down, my first of the year. Over the next hour I found what appears to be an Oxen shoe, a piece of flatware with some hallmarks(if anyone can help ID them, it would be appreciated), a piece of an oil lamp, a lock box key plate, and an unidentified piece of copper which seems too decorative looking to be a machine piece. On Sunday myself and Troyer16 headed to some cellar holes and our first one was the best one. My first signal was the cool store token. My second signal was this knarled, folded piece of something. I almost discarded it, but something about the design made me take a second look. After slowly unfolding it and gathering all the pieces I could find, I had something of interest. From what I can gather it is a Shoken Militia cap plate featuring a heraldic eagle, a shield, cannon and cannonballs, arrows, flags, a drum, and the latin phrase E Pluribus Unum on a banner. I have tried looking it up, but couldn't find anything definitive to compare it to, so maybe someone with more expertise could advise me of the age and unit it came from. My pal Troyer16 found a cool flower motif button and some various buckles.
