Weekend hunt was GOOD to me with CW Belt Plate

Well first off, I know this isn't today's find but it did pop up over the weekend. We hit a spot we've been hunting for a while now and finally decided to clear some new land to detect by using our trimmer and mower. We cleared about a 20'x20' spot to get some new ground and spent about 30 minutes cleaning the surface junk (hoses, pipes, etc) out of the spot before mowing it down to the soil. Well it turned out that I would get rewarded for the efforts. A couple feet into the new spot I heard a good 80's chirp on my AT Pro through the always present iron grunts in iron audio. This site is full of rusted junk, old nails and trash. I pulled about 4-5 nails from the soil while still having a decent tone somewhere in the mix. Finally my pointer detected something in the wall of the hole, so I used my garden knife and popped a chunk of the side wall. I will let the pictures explain the rest of the story! Nothing like a rectangular brass staring you right in the face. This is my first sword belt plate. Only other plate is a US oval buckle and it's from the same site. Here's hoping for more!

Wow awesome condition....:occasion14:

Sweet sword belt plate! Anything else come out of that area you cleared?

Man that is TOP NOTCH! Well done to do all that work to hunt a 20x20 spot. Hope to find one someday . . .

Wow Spectacular!

Very cool! Almost looks like its new. Just need a good cleaning :icon_thumright:

I think it's as clean as I want it to be. I don't like to take too much off. We did manage a couple of gardner bullets from that same area, but that was it. Will be trying again soon to see what else might be there. It's full of iron in the ground, so you never know what else might be lurking in there.

Awesome belt plate! Got to be more good stuff there among the iron!

And an officers belt plate at that, nice find!

Incredible find!, your efforts were rewarded well!

Well worth the effort ... that's a nice piece

Quick question. What makes this one an officer's plate and not a standard sword belt plate? Just curious. I've look at a lot on Hanover Brass and can't really tell. Thought maybe you'd have some insight.

Yours has cast on wreath versus the applied wreath for enlisted men.

Awesome Plate!!! - Congratulations! The Eagle Plates are a rare fine.

Wow, that thing is freakin beautiful!

I clear lots just to dig a bullet sometimes. I appreciate your efforts and your find gives me some hope. That is a fine looking relic and you cleaned it perfect in my book.
Congrats hope the site holds more it sounds like a good one.
Those dang iron grunts on the atpro can wear you out.I have been trying pro zero with discrim @ 15 & sens on high and sneaking a few things out of the iron patches.
Good luck!

Nice digs. That is a beauty for sure, looks perfect don't clean anymore.

Very pretty it is , looks like your hard work paid off handsomely :occasion14: Hope to see one someday in the soil !
