On this weekends hunt we gained permission at a 1880s homestead site. During the hunt we located a colonial relic! WHAT?!? That's right, a mid 1700's crotal bell.
(fistbump) We also recovered a 1904 V Nickel as well as much much more...

I hate to be a party pooper, but your bell is more likely a late 19th / early 20th century sleigh bell.

Ya know, it's really not too hard to understand. People held onto and passed down things from generation to generation. Cheaper than buying again. So, a great grand-kid moved west, taking his heritage with him and low and behold, dropped it outside your door. Waaaaay over there!
